The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed on a contract with free agent pitcher Chad Billingsley according to the team. The deal is reported to be for one-year and $1.5 million including performances bonuses that could bring the total value of the deal up to $6.5 million
Billingsley, 30, hasn’t pitched in the major leagues since 2013 after dealing with Tommy John surgery and other injuries. Prior to that he was a great piece in the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation making the All-Star team in 2009 and averaging 12 wins and nearly 200 innings a season.
If Billingsley is healthy, the Phillies may have found themselves a bargain or potentially even a trade chip depending on how their season goes one way or the other. MLBTradeRumors reported earlier this offseason that both sides had interest in each other because of the Phillies needs and Billingsley’s residence.
