The Pittsburgh Pirates started out the 2024 season with five straight wins, since they they are 12-21 and barely hanging around in the NL Central Division.

With the Bucs looking for a spark, they decided to make the call to their Top Overall Prospect Paul Skenes to make his MLB debut this Saturday against the Chicago Cubs.

Skenes was selected by Pittsburgh as the #1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft from Louisiana State.

In College, he led the LSU Tigers to the 2023 National Championship and earned the College World Series Most Outstanding Player among many other collegiate awards. He finished the season 13-2, with a 1.69 ERA, and 209 strikeouts in 122.2 innings.

In five minor games in 2023, between Rookie, Low A and Double A, Skenes posted a 5.40 ERA, with 10 Ks, in 6.2 innings pitched and opponents batting just .192 against him.

But this season, the power throwing righty, has a 0.99 ERA, through seven starts in Triple A, and has struck out 45 batters through 27.1 innings, with opponents batting .175 against him.

During his first four starts spanning 12.2 innings, he recorded a 0.00 ERA, with 27 strikeouts in that span. Then in his fifth start, he gave up his first run of the season, striking out seven batters in 4.1 innings pitched. In his next at outing, he tossed a four hit six inning shutout, with a walk and seven strikeouts.

The Pirates are looking to stay within the hunt of the leaders, but with two straight losses, seven losses in their last 10, and facing the 22-16 Cubs in the next series, they can use all the help they can get.

And finally with the impending MLB debut of Paul Skenes, help is finally on the way.
