Alex Walworth/Legends on Deck
The New York Yankees signed free agent 2B Jared Serna to a minor league contract on July 2, 2019.
The Guaymas, Mexico native started his pro career in the Dominican Summer League and batted .238 (36 for 151), with 34 runs scored, nine doubles, two triples, three home runs, 16 RBIs, 34 walks and 24 stolen bases through 50 games. From September 10 to September 20, he enjoyed a seven game hitting streak.
In 2022, Serna started with the Florida Complex League Yankees and in early July he recorded three 3-hit games in a row, along with back to back games with a home run in the first two games of his feat.
On July 24th, he was sent to play with the Tampa Tarpons of the Florida State League and after going hitless in his first four games, he enjoyed a 7-game hit streak before returning back to the FCL Yankees on August 9th. Then on August 13th, he recorded his sixth 3-hit game of the FCL season.
That same season the Yankees won the Florida Complex League Championship and Serna was named a FCL Post-Season All Star.
The big club sent the 20-year old to play with the Tampa Tarpons in 2023 and so far he is batting .262 (11 for 42) with three doubles, five RBIs and six walks through 12 games, while also enjoying a three game hitting streak, with back to back 2-hit games in the last two days.
Overall, he has hit safely in 8 of his first 12 games, and has recorded three multi-hit games so far in 2023.
The Florida State League has always produced some great talent and Serna is another prospect to keep an eye on.
