With all of the attention surrounding Jackson Holliday and his soon to be MLB debut, there is another Baltimore Orioles Top Prospect that is wielding a hot bat in Triple A and should be getting a call to the majors some time in 2024.

Coby Mayo, a product of Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL was drafted by the Orioles in the 4th round of the MLB June Draft in 2020.

In 2021, he played in Rookie ball and Low A and combined he batted .319, with 14 doubles, a triple, nine home runs and drove in 41 runners. The next season, he took his game to the next level with High A and Double A, and between both teams he batted .247, with 20 doubles, two triples, 19 Home runs and drove in 69 runners.

Last season, the Coral Springs, FL native started the season in Double A and batted .307, with 30 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs and drove in 44 runners through 78 games. He was then promoted to Triple A and in 62 games, he recorded 15 doubles, a triple, homered 12 times and had 55 RBIs.

As a result of his Double A dominance in 2023, Mayo was named the Eastern League MVP.

During the 2024 season, he has continued to grow into what will soon be an MLB player, as he continues to rake at the plate.

Through the first nine games of the season, he is in the Top 10 in batting in the International League stats: second in at bats (41) seventh in runs (9), third in hits (16), ninth in batting average (.390).

Mayo currently has a five game hitting streak, has batted safely in eight of his first nine games, and recorded a 5 for 7 game in a 26-11 Norfolk Tides (AAA) victory on April 3rd.

More than likely, Mayo may not be the first of the crew of Holliday and Heston Kjerstad, to be called up to the majors, but before this season is over, Mayo will don an Orioles major league uniform as he has the tools to be a successful big league ball player.  The clock is ticking as we all wait on the call!
