Prospects On Deck: C – Omar Martinez – Yankees

The Tampa Tarpons catcher, Omar Martinez, was on a tear ending the month of July, hitting safely in seven of his last eight games.

That hot hitting carried into the the month of August, as he went 4 for 6, with four runs scored, three home runs, and five RBIs on August 1st. Then the very next day, he recorded another four hits, with a home run and three RBIs.

The hitting did not stop as he recorded a hit each the next two days, before going hitless on August 6th.

Over his last seven days, Martinez appeared in five games, and overall was 10 for 23, with seven runs scored, four home runs, 10 RBIs, and three walks.

The New York Yankees catching prospect has been with the organization since the 2018 season and since has has continued to improve with the bat.

Martinez has been in rookie ball up until 2022, and the extra time proved to work as he is having the best season in his minor league career.

Overall, on the season, San Felix, Venezuela native is batting .269, with 49 runs scored, 11 doubles, a triple, 16 home runs, 59 RBIS and 46 walks.

With regards to the rest of the league, Martinez stands in the top 14 in hits (75), second in home runs (16), third in RBIs (59), top 16 in walks (46), top 15 in batting average (.269), second in slugging percentage (.487), and third in OPS (.864).

Martinez may not be a ranked prospect this season, but after the number he put up in Low A ball, he should be on the Yankees prospect radar in 2024.
