Prospects on Deck: OF Simon Muzziotti – Phillies

The Clearwater Threshers continue to make gains in the Florida State League North this week.  Among the reasons for the Threshers success this season is Simon Muzziotti.  The outfielder currently ranks as the #12 Prospect in the Phillies farm system.  His first half performance earned in a spot in the Florida State League All-Star Game.  Muzziotti started in Centerfield for the North, leading off the game with a walk in his one at-bat.

The 20 year old Venezuelan, began his career in the Dominican Summer League and signed as an international free agent in 2016.  In 2017, Muzziotti played 35 games in the Gulf Coast League.  In 2018, he played 68 game with Lakewood and 22 with GCL Phillies, while plagued with injuries.

This year, Muzziotti is a regular in the Threshers lineup, playing both CF and RF.  He’s currently hitting .292 / .730 OPS with 2 HRs, 20 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.  Scouting reports are high on Muzziotti’s potential to become an eventual regular in the Phillies outfield.  He has good speed and range in the field and is considered solid contact hitter.

Muzziotti is joined by other top Phillies prospects in Clearwater, including fellow outfielder Jhailyn Ortiz, who is a top five in homeruns (12) and RBIs (41).  Threshers hitters, along with strong pitching performances, have Clearwater off to an 8-3 record in the Second Half of the FSL season.
