Red Sox Deal Devers, Turn to Youth Movement
The Boston Red Sox shocked the baseball world when they shipped their 3-time All Star, World Series Champion and slugger to the San Francisco Giants on June 15th.
Rafael Devers will now take his power bat to the west coast, leaving a team that is 6.5 games out of first place and one game over .500, while joining a team that is just two games behind the 1st place Los Angeles Dodgers and 10 games over .500.
The Devers trade will be felt in Boston for years to come, but the Red Sox are ready to move forward with their recent youth movement.
On Monday, Boston’s lineup consisted of three rookies players who made their MLB debut this season, one from last season and two from the 2023 season. It’s highly unlikely the Red Sox will win now with this current group, even after veteran Alex Bregman returns from the DL. But their younger players have the make-up to becoming household names just as Ceddanne Rafaela and Jarred Duran have done the last few seasons. And with a mix of veterans like Trevor Story and Bregman, a new batch of Boston’s finest could emerge and one day lead their team back to the promise land.
To build lasting success, teams must invest in and develop their young talent and so far that seems to be the misset of the Red Sox.
