Red Sox Snap Losing Streak With Win Over Mets

9th inning rally propels comeback victory.

The Boston Red Sox snapped their three game losing streak over the New York Mets with a 4-3 bottom of the ninth victory on a passed ball by catcher Kevin Plawecki.

Red Sox centerfielder Mookie Betts doubled and tripled, and catcher Matt Spring hit his first home run of the spring.

Boston starter Joe Kelly was roughed up in his 2 2/3 innings of work allowing three runs on seven hits. Kelly struck out two.

Mets starter Matt Harvey continued his comeback with four scoreless innings, allowing three hits and striking out three. New York outfielders Juan Lagares and Michael Cuddyer has two hits each in the loss.

The Red Sox are back on the winning end after dropping last Friday night’s game to the New York Yankees 5-3 and Saturday to the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 at home, and a road contest Sunday in Clearwater against the Philadelphia Phillies 11-4.

In Sunday’s game, Boston starting pitcher Justin Masterson was tagged with the loss, allowing six earned runs on seven hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. Former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon earned the victory. Daniel Nava hit a home run in the loss.

The Red Sox continue their home stand on Tuesday with a game against the Atlanta Braves and Wednesday versus the Minnesota Twins. Both games are at jetBlue Park at 1:05 PM. Boston returns to the road on Thursday with a game against the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin.
