Anthony Rizzo Homers Cubs Pass Cards In Game 1

First baseman Anthony Rizzo showed the reasoning behind his All-Star selection by powering the Chicago Cubs pass the St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 on Tuesday afternoon in the first game of the doubleheader.
In the bottom of the third the Cubs took a 2-0 lead with a two run single by Chris Denorfia to send home Rizzo and Jorge Soler.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Cards’ Marcus Hatley walked Soler to allow Cubs’ pitcher Jake Arrieta to score for a three run lead by the Cubs.
With a 3-2 ballgame going into the bottom of the eighth inning. A RBI double off of Dexter Fowler sent Jonathan Herrera to score for a 4-2 game. Rizzo then hit a two run homer, his sixteenth of the season, on a line drive to left center field for a 6-2 Cubs lead. But, before the inning was over another RBI single by Denorfia sent Kris Bryant home to extend the score to a five run lead.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Cards’ Mark Reynolds hit his sixth homer of the season, a two run hot for a 7-4 ballgame.
Rizzo finished the first game of the doubleheader 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a homer with 47 RBIs on the season so far.
Arrieta (ERA 2.80) pitched six and two thirds innings for allowing two runs off of seven hits, striking out four and walking two and advanced to (9-5) on the season.
