The Rochester Red Wings faced off against the Durham Bulls for the first game of a day/night doubleheader on Tuesday and they held on late for a 4-3 victory.
The story-line of the day was Red Wings starter Chih-Wei Hu, who arrived from Class-A Advanced Fort Myers Miracle to make his Triple-A debut for the Red Wings.
In six games for the Miracle so far this season, Hu was 4-0, with a 1.03 ERA, and 36 strike outs in 35 innings.
On Tuesday, the Taiwanese native kept the Bulls off the scoreboard for the first four innings, before allowing a run in the top of the fifth on a sac fly off the bat of Vince Belnome scoring Luke Maile from third. Hu was able to get out of the jam and in the sixth retired the Bulls in order to end his day. His final line, 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 4 BB, 6 K.
The Red Wings scored their first run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by James Beresford plating Brock Peterson to go up early 1-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, two more Red Wings would score on a Peterson two-run home run, his fifth on the season, to extend the lead to 3-0.
In the fifth, both teams traded runs with Rochester scoring on a throwing error from Alexi Casilla, allowing Nate Hanson to score from third to make the score 4-1.
The Bulls added two runs late, each in the eighth and ninth, but the Red Wings were able to hold off the surge and secure the 4-3 victory.
