Rookies on Deck: OF Jordan Walker – Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals drafted Jordan Walker in the 1st round of the 2020 June draft out of Decatur High School in Stone Mountain, GA.
In his first pro season in 2021 with the Palm Beach Cardinals of the Florida State League (Low A), Walker hit .374 (37 for 99), with 11 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 21 RBIs through 27 games.
He was then promoted to the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League (Class A+) and in 55 games he batted .292, with 14 doubles, three triples, eight home runs and 27 RBIs.
In 2022, Walker just kept on hitting, as he batted .306, with 31 doubles, three triples, 19 home runs, 68 RBIs and 58 walks through 119 games with Double A Springfield Cardinals.
The Cardinals rewarded Walker with an invite to the 2023 spring season and he stepped up and showcased his talents by batting .271 (18 for 65), with five doubles, three home runs and nine RBIs through 20 games.
That was enough to break camp with the big club and earn an opening day start and MLB debut.
On Thursday, he hit a line drive up the middle in his first MLB at bat to record his first MLB hit.
After a team scheduled day off, he was back at it again on Saturday finished 2 for 4, with an RBI, helping the Cardinals defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 4-1.
At 20 years old and 6’5″ outfielder, keep an eye on Walker as he will become a star outfielder in St. Louis and wow the fans in the process.
