Royals Give Salvador Perez Extension Through 2021

World Series’ MVP Salvador Perez received a 5 year extension with the Royals. (

The Kansas City Royals have made sure that their reigning World Series MVP will be with them for the foreseeable future.

According to, the Royals and catcher Salvador Perez agreed to a five year extension until after the 2021 Major League season. The deal is said to be worth $52.5 million and a $6 million signing bonus, which Perez definitely seems well deserving of after his leadership both on and off the field.

Outlined, the contract pays the 25 year old the following: in 2017 $3 million, in 2018 $7.5 million, in 2019 $10 million,and $13 million each in 2020 and 2021.

The three-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glove Winner was signed by the Royals at just sixteen years old while playing in his native Venezuela. He made his Major League debut in August 2011 and has been a staple to a Kansas City team that made it to the World Series in two consecutive seasons breaking a drought that was nearly three decades long.

The Royals captured the 2015 World Series over the Mets with the game tying hit by Perez in the ninth sending it to extra innings and a hit by Perez in the 12th inning that would lead to the 7-2 victory and the World Series Championship making him the obvious candidate for MVP.
