According to multiple sources, the Oakland Athletics will promote one of their highly talked about prospects Sean Manaea.
The twenty-four year old will make his first on Friday as the A’s take on the Houston Astros. Oakland made the decision to promote the left-hander after Erick Surkamp was demoted this week.
So far in 2016, Manaea pitched eighteen innings with a 1.50 ERA with a 2-0 record while striking out twenty-one batters in the Pacific Coast League with the Nashville Sounds.
A weak point for Manaea so far in his pro ball is his command which has seen a lot of improvement at the end of 2015 since being traded by the Kansas City Royals in exchange for Ben Zobrist, and then also while playing in the Arizona Fall League this past November. He has good off-speed pitches but his biggest weapon is his fastball that on average sits around the 94mph mark. His alternate pitches include a changeup and a slider at average speeds.
Manaea was drafted in the First Round of the 2013 MLB Draft by the Kansas City Royals. Entering the 2016 season A’s ranked Sean Manaea as the second best prospect in the organization and MLB.com ranked him as the 68th best prospect in baseball.
