New York Mets’ rookie pitcher Steven Matz was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.
The left-handed Matz made two starts with the Mets on June 28 and July 5, where he went 2-0 and allowed just seven hits in 13.2 innings, with just two runs and five walks; striking out fourteen. Matz was not only successful on the mound but also at the plate going 3 for 6 while racking up 5 RBIs.
The 24 year old made his final rehab start with Double-a Binghamton on Monday night as he’s worked his way back from a strained left lat muscle. In his last rehab start he pitched five and one third shutout innings.
The Mets’ plan for Steven Matz is to start him in Noah Syndergaard’s spot this weekend against the Miami Marlins. Next week, a six man rotation will then go into effect including both Matz and Syndergaard.
