The Royal Oak Leprechauns Join the Northwoods League

If you’re a follower of Legends on Deck, you know about our passion for collegiate summer baseball.  Over the past few seasons, we’ve written or hosted podcasts about The Savannah Bananas (while still a member of the Coastal Plain League), Winter Garden Squeeze, Carolina Disco Turkeys, Macon Bacon and the Royal Oak Leprechauns.

Over the past couple years, we covered the Leprechauns and their unique summer baseball journey.  First, there was my personal recap of the experience attending a Leprechauns game in 2022 entitled, Summer Baseball at the Lucky Corner.  Then, we released a special St. Patrick’s Day episode of the LOD Podcast, we interviewed the General Manager of the Leprechauns, Mark Sackett.

After another successful season at the Lucky Corner, the Leprechauns will join the Northwoods League, one of the premiere summer collegiate leagues in America today.

The league is welcoming the Metro Detroit based franchise with great enthusiasm.

“The Northwoods League is very pleased to welcome the Royal Oak Leprechauns to our family of teams for the 2024 season,” said Northwoods League Baseball President/Commissioner Ryan Voz. “This marks an exciting chapter for our league, and we’re confident that the Leprechauns will continue to bring an exceptional baseball experience to Royal Oak and the entire Michigan region.”

The Leprechauns will be the fourth Michigan based team in the NWL, along with the Battle Creek Battle Jacks, Kalamazoo Growlers and Traverse City Pit Spitters.  At Legends on Deck, we look forward to what the next chapter in Royal Oak Leprechauns history brings and the excitement that awaits for local fans going into 2024.
