Vientos Ties It in 6th, Lindor Ends It in 9th: Mets Win in Dramatic Fashion
The New York Mets are finding ways to win ball games and the offense has yet to find their chemistry, which is a very scary thought for opposing pitchers.
On Friday night, in game two of the 4-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets found themselves down 2-0 after four innings as the offense seemed to be sputtering through the first part of the game, managing just a first inning triple from Pete Alonso and a fourth inning single from Brandon Nimmo.
But the Mets finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth as Brett Baty opened the inning with a double, and scored on a line-drive triple off the bat of Tyrone Taylor, as the ball split the defenders and rolled all the ay to the right center field wall.
Then after a fly out to right field from Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto finally made his mark at Citi Field, with a line drive single to right, scoring the tying run from third base.
The Cardinals answered right back with a run in the top of the sixth, to retake the lead at 3-2, but New York responded with their own run in the bottom of the frame, with a solo blast off the bat of Mark Vientos tying the game at 3-3.

The Mets offense continued to put pressure on the St. Louis defense as they scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the eighth, when Luis Torrens doubled home Nimmo to put the Mets up 4-3.
But the Cardinals would not go quietly, as Brandan Donovan took Mets reliever Huascar Brazoban deep off the right field netting on the pole, tying the game at 4-4, and setting up a potential Mets walk-off in the bottom of the ninth.
And only fitting that Lindor would come to the plate, with the game in his hands, as Mets fans have become accustomed to after his heroics in 2024. After a 1-1 count, Lindor swung at a 91.4 cutter and blasted it over the right field fence into the upper deck sending the Mets to a 5-4 exciting victory. That was Lindor’s first walk-off home run in a Mets uniform.
New York won their second straight game and improved to 13-7 and hold a 1 game lead over the Philadelphia Phillies, who also won on Friday to keep pace with the Mets. The Cardinals dropped to 9-11, dropping their second straight game.
