WBSC Premier 12: Eight Teams Advance To Quarterfinals

The first round of the WBSC Premier 12 has completed with eight teams advancing to the Quarterfinals.  Japan and Canada stormed through the round winning all five of their games. The other six teams to follow are, the United States (3-2), South Korea (3-2), Netherlands (3-2), and Cuba (3-2).  Puerto Rico (2-3) and Mexico (2-3) were the only two teams with under .500 records advanced.

Prior to the tournament all the participating countries were ranked and out of the 12 that entered pool play, four of the top five countries have advanced to the second round.

#4 Chinese Taipei – Group A
#5 Netherlands – Group A
#6 Dominican Republic – Group B
#7 Canada – Group A
#8 South Korea – Group B

#10 Venezuela – Group B
#11 Italy – Group A
#12 Mexico – Group B

The Quarterfinal round will start on Monday with each team needing one win to advance to the second round.

Monday’s Schedule
Mexico (2-3) v. Canada (5-0)
South Korea v. Cuba (3-2)
Netherlands (3-2) v. United States (3-2)
Puerto Rico (2-3) v. Japan (5-0)
