What Is Wrong With Mets Ace Jacob deGrom?

I am sure the title of this post is on everyone’s mind these past two weeks.

But could it be that the superhuman pitcher and reigning Cy Young award winner, Jacob deGrom is actually human after all.

I believe that Mets fans, including myself, were super spoiled last year when it seemed that every game the Mets ace pitched, he was just unhittable. It was almost crazy to see that the offense could not score any runs for him as if Kryptonite was affecting their bats.

But here we are in 2019, and it seems as if something is wrong.

I didn’t agree with the whole idea that he would hold out and pitch less if he didn’t get his extension. But after he did get his money, now he isn’t the deGrom we all know and expect every time he takes the mound.

What could actually be wrong?

The pressure of not getting his money; we see is not a burden any longer.

The pressure of being the best; well he attained that last year, unless he just feels he should be that good again.

The teams offense is probably the best the Mets have had in a season or two, so could he be pressing to make sure he is perfect?

These are questions that not I, nor the fan base can answer, only deGrom can.

Only he knows what is wrong and he also knows that in order for the Mets to be the team to beat in 2019, they need deGrom to be good. But he doesn’t have to be great or even better than last season, he just has to be consistent.

Could it have been the pressure of continuing the streak of 26 quality starts that ended in his third start of the season against the Minnesota Twins, who also ended his 26 consecutive scoreless innings streak.

Whatever it is, Jacob deGrom is in a bit of a funk, and the hope is that the last two starts are just an aberration and he will get back to pitching dominate baseball again. All Mets fans hope that is the answer.

Five home runs in the last two games, can weigh on a guys mind, but all he needs is a good outing in his next start, and deGrom and the Mets will be back on track.

We will all wait and see and hope for the best.
