Game 1 of the 2017 World Series was played in Los Angeles in front of 54,253 fans as the Dodgers took on the Houston Astros.
Dodgers starter, Clayton Kershaw has pitched in 11 postseason games since joining the Dodgers in 2008, spanning nine seasons, but the lefty had yet to take the mound in a World Series game. So finally on October 24th, the two-time 21 game winner was where he finally belonged and he proved that point to be correct with a performance for the ages.
The Dodgers Ace put his teammates on his back tossing seven innings, allowing one run on three hits, didn’t allow a walk, and struck out 11 batters. He actually had eight strikeouts through the first four innings, striking out the side in the third and fourth.
As for the Dodgers offense, Chris Taylor parked the first pitch of the game over the left center filed fence to give the Dodgers an early 1-0 in the first.
The Astros tied the game at 1-1 on the only mistake of the game by Kershaw, when Alex Bregman sent a 93 MPH fastball flying over the left field fence for a solo shot. But that is all the Astros would manage, as their high-flying offense was shut down by Kershaw and company.
The Dodgers re-took the lead in the sixth on a two-run blast off the bat of co-NLCS MVP, Justin Turner, scoring the other NLCS MVP, Taylor, to put L.A. up for good at 3-1.
The Astros Dallas Keuchel took the loss as he lasted 6.2 innings, but allowed three runs on the two home runs, walked one and struck out only three batters.
After Kershaw left the game, the ‘Stros were shut down in order by Brandon Morrow and Kenley Jansen, leading the Dodgers to a 3-1, Game 1 victory.
On Wednesday, both teams will be at it again in Game 2, with 2017 ALCS MVP Justin Verlander taking the mound against the Dodgers Rich Hill.
Can the Astros steal one in L.A. and tie the series, or will the Dodgers show the world that Verlander is human? Game 2 starts at 8:09 PM, stay tuned for our recap.
