Yankees’ Prospect Ben Gamel Gets Big League Promotion

The New York Yankees have promoted outfield prospect Ben Gamel to the Major Leagues and placed him on the 25-Man Active Roster.
Yankees’ outfielder Brett Gardner was hit by a pitch on Wednesday night against the Baltimore Orioles and although the injury doesn’t look to be serious, it will be good to have an alternate option in the outfield.
The twenty-three year old has flown somewhat under the radar through the Yankees Organization but his performance in the 2015 season and then in Spring Training at the start of this season, has shown he might be ready for the Big Leagues.
So far in 2016 he has hit .286 in twenty-three games with a homer and 9 RBIs along with seven stolen bases.
Although the callup is presumed to be short lived, this time, it is surprising that Gamel would be the outfielder the Yankees chose to backup Brett Gardner. The Yankees most talked about prospect Aaron Judge still needs more at-bats at Triple-A Scranton before he makes his Bronx debut and veteran Nick Swisher also apparently needs more time between infield and outfield before the Yankees see his familiar face back in pinstripes.
