Yordano Ventura Dies In Car Accident

Starting Pitcher Was Just 25 Years Old

Sad news this morning coming out of the Dominican Republic.  It is being reported that Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Yordano Ventura has been killed in a motor vehicle accident.

Earlier on Sunday there was an announcement on MLBTradeRumors that former MLB player Andy Marte lost his life as well.  It was believed at first that they were in the same accident, but later it was discovered that they were two seperate incidents.  Posts on twitter say it is believed that both were under the influence.

Ventura, 25, won a World Series with the Royals back in 2015.  He had an up and down career which was overshadowed at times with his temper.  In his four seasons in the majors, Ventura held a record of 38-31 with an ERA of 3.89.  His best season came back in 2014 when he finished sixth in Rookie of the Year voting.  He went 14-10 with a 3.20 ERA.

Marte played parts of seven season most recently with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.
