It has been quite the adventure for the 2015 First Overall Pick, shortstop Dansby Swanson. After being drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks, he helped Vanderbilt to the College World Series for the second consecutive year, but fell short in the third and final game of the series to Virginia.
The twenty-one year old then signed with the Diamondbacks, just moments before deadline where he agreed to a contract containing a $6.5 million signing bonus. He was then sent to the Arizona League to play with the Diamondbacks’ Rookie Squad and was then supposed to join the Class-A team.
But, just before Swanson was supposed to appear with the Rookie League, he was hit in the mouth with a pitch in a simulated game which caused him to suffer a concussion and get fourteen stitches. Two weeks later, he has finally been cleared to play and will now join the Class A Short Season Hillsboro Hops on Wednesday as the team travels to Vancouver to take on the Blue Jays’ Class A Team, the Vancouver Canadians.
The twelfth best prospect in baseball hit .335 in his junior season with Vanderbilt in 2015 along with 64 RBIs and fifteen homeruns.
