Prospects On Deck: Top Hitters For The Month of May

Here are your Top hitters for each Minor League level for the month of May.

International League

Ronny Mauricio, of the Syracuse Mets (New York Mets), batted .367 (40 for 109) with 18 runs scored, 14 doubles, a triple, home run and 17 RBIs in the month. He recorded two 9-game hitting streaks in the month, first from May 7 to May 17th, then from May May 19th until May 31st. He also hit safely in 22 of the 25 games he appeared in, with 14 multi-hit games, which also included four 3-hit games.

Honorable Mention: Moises Gomez, of the Memphis Red Birds (St. Louis Cardinals), hit 12 home runs in the month, while batting .294. He ended the month with four home runs in his last three games, including a two homer game on May 31st.

Pacific League

Elehuris Montero, of the Albuquerque Isotopes (Colorado Rockies), batted .393 (35 for 89), with 23 runs scored, five doubles, nine home runs and 30 RBIs in the month. Recorded 6-game and 7-game hitting streaks in the month, while also hitting safely in 18 of 24 games he batted in, with 12 multi-hit games, including five 3-hit games.

Honorable Mention: Jake Scheiner, of the Tacoma Rainiers (Seattle Mariners), batted .360 (32 for 89), with seven doubles, seven home runs, and 20 RBIs. He ended the month on a 6-game hitting streak, with 10-multi-hit games.

Eastern League

Colt Keith, of the Erie SeaWolves (Detroit Tigers), batted .374 (34 for 91), with 23 runs scored, seven doubles, a triple, six home runs, and 27 RBIs. He started the month with a 6-game hittiong streak, and ended it with an 8-game hitting streak. He enjoyed a historic night on May 16th, when he hit for the cycle going 6 for 6, with three runs scored, double, triple, two home runs, and seven RBIs, while recording 15 total bases.

Honorable Mention: Johan Rojas, of the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies), batted .346 (36 for 104), with 22 runs scored, five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 14 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. Rojas finished the month on a seven game hitting streak, hitting safely in 19 of 24 games, with 12 multi-hit games, which included three 3-hit games and one 4-hit game.

Southern League

Noelvi Marte, of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinatti Reds), batted .343 (34 for 99) with 22 runs scored, seven doubles, seven home runs and 18 RBIs. He started the month with an 8-game hitting streak, then squeezed in a 7-game hitting streak from may 14 to May 21st. Marte hit safely in 20 of the 24 games he batted in, while recording 12 multi-hit games, two of which were 3-hit games.

Honorable Mention: B.J. Murray, of the Tennessee Smokies (Chicago Cubs), batted .309 (29 for 94) with 20 runs scored, 10 doubles, a triples, seix home runs, 20 RBIs and 16 walks. He hit safely in 17 of the 25 games he batted in, while recording nine multi-hit games, with three 3-hit games in the month.

Texas League

Darell Hernaiz, of the Midland Rockhounds (Oakland A’s), batted .363 (33 for 91) with 14 runs scored, nine doubles, two tripels, two homes runs and 19 RBIs. From May 9 to May 17th, he recorded a 7-game hitting streak, which also included three straight 3-hit games to start the streak. In the month, he hit safely in 18 of the 23 games he batted in, and has ended the month on a five game hitting streak.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Bliss, of Amarillo Sod Poodles (Arizona DBacks), batted .348 (32 for 92), with 19 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, five home runs, and 13 RBIs. From May 4th to May 14th, he enjoyed a 9-game hitting streak, and ended the month on a 6-game hitting streak.  Bliss batted safely in 19 of the 22 games he batted in, while recording 10 multi-hit games, with three 3-hit games in the month.

South Atlantic League

Jackson Holliday, of the Aberdeen IronBirds (Baltimore Orioles), batted .384 (33 for 86), with 26 runs scored, six doubles, three triples, three home runs, 19 RBIs and 21 walks. From May 3rd to May 11, he enjoyed a 7-game hitting streak. Then two days later he started a new hit streak and it ended on May 24th with 9-game straight games with a hit. In that span he recorded a 5-hit game on May 17th, going 5 for 6, with a double, two triples, five RBIs. His monster game followed a 3 for 3 game on May 16th, where he drove in six runs. He hit safely in 19 of the 24 games he batted in, with nine multi-hit games, one 5-hit game, and one 3-hit game.

Honorable Mention: Marcelo Mayer, of the Greenville Drive (Boston Red Sox), batted .321 (25 for 78), with 14 runs scored, seven doubles, six home runs, and 23 RBIs. He started the month with a six game hitting streak, which included two 4-hit games and a 3-hit game.

Midwest League

Nathan Church, of the Peoria Chiefs (St. Louis Cardinals), batted .351 (34 for 97) with 19 runs scored, six doubles, a triple, home runs, seven RBIs and 11 walks. He started the month on a 6-game hitting streak, on May 11th to May 20th he had a nine game hitting streak, then on May 23 to May 30 he recorded a 7-game hitting streak. He hit safely in 22 of the 26 games he batted in the month, while also recording 8 multi-hit games in the span.

Honorable Mention: Austin Gauthier, of the Tulsa Drillers (Los Angeles Dodgers), batted .349 (29 for 83), with 22 runs scored, five doubles, a triple, five home runs and 23 RBIs. He started the month with back-to back three hit games, hitting safely in 19 of the 25 games he batted in, and recorded 8-multi-hit games.

Northwest League

Yanquiel Fernandez, of the Spokane Indians (Colorado Rockies), batted .385 (45 for 117), with 26 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. He recorded two five game hitting streaks and from May 9 to May 13th, he had five straight multi-hit games, sneaking in a 5-hit game where he hit for the cycle.  From May 16th to May 28th, he enjoyed a 13 game hitting streak and overall had 13 multi-hit games (one 5-hit and 4-hit and three 3-hit game). He hit safely in 24 of the 28 games he batted in for the month.

Honorable Mention: Zach Kokoska, of the Spokane Indians (Colorado Rockies), batted .391 (36 for 92), with 20 runs scored, 10 doubles, nine home runs, 25 RBIs and 12 walks. He enjoyed a nine game hitting streak during the month and ended May on a 5-game hitting streak, while recording 13 multi-hit games in May.

Carolina League

Bryce Willits, of the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers (Chicago White Sox), batted .360 (27 for 75) with 13 runs scored , four doubles, a triple, five home runs, 15 RBIs and 10 walks. He started the month with a 10-game hitting streak, and hit safely in 17 of the 21 games he batted in.

Honorable Mention: David McCabe, of the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves), batted .298 (25 for 84), with 19 runs scored, four doubles, a triple, six home runs, 19 RBIs and 16 walks. He hit safely in 17 of the 25 games he batted in May.

Florida State League

Hector Rodriguez, of the Daytona Tortugas (Cincinnati Reds), batted .357 (35 for 98), with 23 runs scored, five doubles, four triples, four home runs, and 14 RBIs. He recorded a five game hitting streak from May 7th to May 13th and all five were multi-hit games. He has ended the month on a 13-game hitting streak, while hitting safely in 21 of the 23 games he batted in May.

Honorable Mention: Jared Serna, of the Tampa Tarpons (New York Yankees), batted .305 (32 for 105), with 22 runs scored, five doubles, a triple, eight home runs and 18 RBIs. Serna had a five-game multi-hit streak from May 3rd to May 9th. He then recorded his second 4-hit game of the month on May 16th and from May 19 to May 30th, he enjoyed a 10-game hitting streak. He hit safely in 19 of the 25 games he batted in the month.

California League

Carter Howell, of the San Jose Giants (San Francisco Giants), batted .372 (35 for 94), with 31 runs scored, six doubles, two triples, three hoem runs, nine RBIs and 14 walks. He enjoyed a 9-game and 10-game hitting streak before being promoted to the Eugene Emeralds (High A) on May 30th. He hit safely in 19 of 21 games with San Jose, recording 10 multi-hit games in the span.  One thing to mention, after hsi promotion to the next level, he recorded a 4-hit game in his second game in High A ball.

Honorable Mention: Gabriel Gonzalez, of the Modesto Nuts (Seattle Mariners), batted .351 (34 for 97), with 18 runs scored, seven doubles, three home runs, and 18 RBIs. He ended the month of May on a 15-game hitting streak, recording eight multi-hit games in that span.
