Prospects on Deck: Twins’ Farm System Has an Acuña of Their Own
The Minnesota Twins were hoping they have gotten lightning in a bottle, when they signed Bryan Acuña as an international free agent in January 2022. Acuña is the younger brother of the Atlanta Braves superstar Ronald Acuña Jr. and the New York Mets rookie speedster Luisangel Acuña.
Bryan Acuña started his professional baseball career with the Twins Dominican Summer League team during the 2022 season and in 43 games, he had a line of .310/.409/.393, with 12 doubles, 16 RBIs and nine stolen bases in 13 attempts.
Prior to the 2023 season, Acuña was ranked as the Twins #18 Top Prospect, played the full season with the Florida Complex League Twins (Rookie Ball), with a slash line .185/.327/.227, with two doubles, a home run, 14 RBIs and perfect with 4 for 4 in steals, through 40 games.
The Twins kept the younger Acuña in the rookie league for another season in 2024, and the shortstop answered back with better productivity at the plate, producing a slash line .255/.423/.311, along with six doubles, nine RBIs and five stolen bases, through 37 games.
For the start of the 2025 season, Acuña played in 21 games with the FCL, improving on his slash lien form 2024 (.254/.420/.365), while adding four doubles, a home run and 15 RBIs. The improvement from last season, prompted the Twins to promote Acuña to their Low A ball affiliate, the Fort Myers Might Mussels, on June 10th.
In his first game with the Mussels, Acua struck out in his first at bat, but then quickly redeemed himself with an RBI single in his second at bat, helping to lead his new teammates to victory. Since his promotion, he is 2 for 11, with two RBIs in three games.
Acuna comes from a bloodline of ball players, as we have already have witnessed with Ronald Acuña Jr.and now as Luisangel Acuña makes presence known on the Mets.
At just 19 years old, Bryan Acuña isn’t chasing his brothers’ hype, he’s carving out his own path and building a name that should stand on its own in the game.
