A Silver Season for the Mets: Alonso Gets His First, Soto Adds More Hardware

To be awarded as a Silver Slugger, a player needs to be the best offensive player at their respective position and decided by votes from MLB managers and coaches.

The National League’s 2025 Silver Slugger Award Winner at First Base: Pete Alonso

It might come as a surprise, but this marks Alonso’s first-ever Silver Slugger Award in his seven-year career. Since debuting in 2019, Alonso has consistently been one of the most prolific power hitters in the game, making this long-overdue recognition even more meaningful.

In 2025, Alonso posted a career-high .272 batting average, tying for fourth among National League first basemen with Matt Olson. His .347 on-base percentage ranked fourth as well, behind Bryce Harper, Olson, and Freddie Freeman. However, his .524 slugging percentage led all NL first basemen.

What truly set Alonso apart were his league-leading power numbers. He topped the National League in home runs (38), RBI (126), and OPS (.871), while also tying for first with 170 hits and 41 doubles.

Despite a season that fell short of postseason hopes for the Mets, Alonso delivered every single day, appearing in all 162 games. Along the way, he became the Mets’ all-time home run leader and solidified his case for a major free-agent payday—something he narrowly missed out on a year prior.

There’s no question that Pete Alonso has more than earned this long-awaited honor, capping off one of the finest seasons of his career.

Soto Joins Alonso Among 2025 Silver Slugger Standouts

When Juan Soto signed with the New York Mets in the offseason, both ownership and fans knew they were getting something special. His résumé spoke for itself — a proven superstar with an elite combination of power, patience, and flair.

Early in the season, however, Soto didn’t quite look like himself. But as the year wore on and the summer heat settled in, he reminded everyone exactly why he earned his massive contract.

Before the 2025 season, Soto had already claimed five Silver Slugger Awards — three from 2020–2022 and two more in 2023–2024. His 2025 honor now marks the second time in his career that he’s won the award in three consecutive seasons — an achievement that further cements his place among baseball’s elite hitters.

This year, Soto was a force at the plate, leading National League outfielders with 120 runs scored, 43 home runs (a career high), and 127 walks, while also driving in 105 RBI. He tied for first with 38 stolen bases, posted a .396 on-base percentage, ranked second with a .525 slugging percentage, and led the league with an impressive .921 OPS.

It’s exciting to imagine what a full 2026 season could bring with Soto and Alonso anchoring the Mets’ lineup once again, if the Polar Bear resigns with the Mets, because what they accomplished in 2025 almost feels unreal.
