Mets Fans Answer The Call And Pack The House At Citi Field
During this past spring training, the New York Mets owner Steven Cohen shared his frustrations with how low attendance was in 2024, even with the Mets in the middle of a pennant race.
The Mets were 17th in attendance in 2024, averaging roughly 29,484 fans per game, where their home field capacity is 41,800.
But the Mets were really bad for the first half of the 2024 season, and most fans checked out by mid-season, prior to the magical run to the post-season. Not that it makes much sense, but it took a while for die-hard Mets fans to catch on to the winning and go back out to the games.
But after Steve Cohen’s rallying cry, the fans have responded and they have truly enjoyed what the Mets are putting out on the field and the players are feeding off the energy.
Juan Soto who has not gotten off to a great start in the power numbers, made it known recently to the media what it means to play in front of the Citi Field faithful:
“It’s a great feeling when you have the fan base supporting you when you’re doing bad, when you’re doing good — it’s just great. I really appreciate what they did. I feel like they don’t know how meaningful that is. It means a lot to the players when they do that. It’s really special.”
Lead-off hitter and unofficial Mets captain Francisco Lindor shared recently that there is a growing energy at Citi Field with the large crowds, where the team is feeding off the energy and finding success in winning ball games. Even Brandon Nimmo had great things to say about the crowds, as he shared that even with the bad weather in the month of April, the fans have been coming out which has truly been amazing for the team and in their success.
The Mets have played 13 home games so far in 2024, and they are 12-1 in those games, and 7-0 in their most recent home stand. Truly a remarkable start to a season full of much promise and the fans are coming out and enjoying it all with the team.

Through the first 13 home games, the Mets have a total of 475,813 in a attendance, which is roughly 36,601 per game, putting them in 6th place in the MLB rankings.
The Mets owners asked, the players are delivering and the fans are responding. It’s just been a great recipe for success and great times at Citi Field.
The Mets are rewarding their fan base as they hold the best record in baseball at 18-7, are 5 games up in the NL East and have a 7-game winning streak.
What a great way to start the season and give the fans all they have been asking for – Winning Mets Baseball!!
